  • We were established in 2013 by Advanced Care Paramedics in Alberta. After responding to a diverse amount of emergency calls throughout Alberta, we noticed many people were fearful of attempting first aid on a friend or stranger. Some people were fearful of performing a skill wrong, or causing harm; others had forgotten their training from years ago. Simple lifesaving first aid skills such as abdominal thrusts for choking, CPR for cardiac arrest, the use of an AED in a public space, and recognizing signs of stroke were not being performed. We wanted to help the communities we served.

We sought to expand our knowledge base and understanding of first aid instruction with the Canadian Red Cross. We found they were leaders in the first aid realm, and decided becoming a Training Partner with them would be a perfect fit. Two of the most effective tools we learned in the instructor program were class/team dynamics and communication. Successful communication in the emergency setting helps create an interdisciplinary team that accomplishes the gold standard of patient centered care. We pride ourselves on our instructors creating a safe, comfortable learning environment. It is our hope that you leave the classroom as a competent first aid responder.

  • In Emergency Medical Services (EMS), incoming emergency phone calls are received by an emergency dispatch center. These calls are given a 'determinant'. A determinant informs EMS personnel what type of emergency call they will be responding to, and the severity of the injury/illness.

In the EMS priority dispatch system, the most frequent critical injury or illness calls are Delta response calls. These calls require a rapid response for effective help with these life threatening emergencies.

Although definitive care in any emergency medical situation requires transportation to a hospital, first responders have the opportunity to initiate life saving techniques to the critically-ill.  The sick and injured need safe, confident, reliable emergency support from those whom are helping them. This compassion can be from a first aider, a nurse, a physician, a paramedic or anyone trained to assist in emergencies.

Delta Emergency Support Training educates those undertaking our courses to be proficient, knowledgeable, confident first responders.

  • Our Logo

Our logo represents our EMS background with the crucial synergy of effective first aid when working as a team for patient-centered care.

The “Lifebolt” logo is the combination of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Star of Life, a lightning bolt, and a heart.

The EMS Star of Life represents 6 principles:

    1. Detection
    2. Reporting
    3. Response
    4. On-Scene Care
    5. Care in Transit
    6. Transfer to Definitive Care

Some first aiders can perform all of these principles on an injured person, depending on their certification and location. Effective treatment in cardiac arrest is the core of first aid and CPR programs.

In addition to CPR and ABC management in a cardiac arrest, an AED is one the single greatest life saving tools a first aider can utilize. Fast detection, response, and confident care in a cardiac arrest will significantly increase a persons chance of survival.
