This course meets the 40 hour AFA + BLS RECERT requirement for Edmonton Fire and Calgary Fire. Past students have been hired with Edmonton/Calgary Fire departments. Our Advanced First Aid RECERT course also comes with BLS CPR at no additional cost.

Advanced First Aid. Online learning + in-person skill days. This program is made to fit those with a full-time job that want to train in Advanced First Aid.
Max of 12 students.
Virtual sessions start at 8pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays nights. Sessions are between 2-3 hours.
There are 6 in person dates for skill training. Two half evenings, and 4 full weekend days.

The course is a combination of evening virtual sessions and bi-weekly in-person weekend sessions in downtown Calgary.

Our Advanced First Aid course also comes with BLS CPR.
You receive two certifications from signing up - AFA and BLS. BLS CPR expires yearly, the recert cost is $80.00 and only takes 3-4 hours. AFA lasts for 3 years and the recert is ~40% less.
Target Group
This advanced first aid recert course is approved for pre-hospital medical first responders. Advanced First Aid is a professional level course for emergency responders including firefighters, law-enforcement officers, forestry and industrial workers, and oil and gas safety personnel.
Calgary Fire states an Advanced First Aid certificate (or equivalent) from a Canadian Red Cross provider (that’s us!) is required to be hired. You do not need an AFA certification prior to hiring, but having it before you apply will make your application more competitive. You will need an AFA certification in order to qualify for a Conditional Job Offer; Conditional Job Offers are generally presented ten weeks prior to the start date of a recruit training class.
